How lovely it was waking up this morning at 6:15am local time and feeling wide awake! :-) Took my sweet time getting up and around today...AWESOME! I loved having no where to be at a particular time today! Got myself together and headed out the the closest bus stop to catch a ride to the expo for the race. A wonderful 50 degrees and overcast...jeans, t-shirt and sweatshirt were my clothes of choice today :-) te he!
I've never had to figure out the bus and had some issues but after while, I made it to my destination. Found out at the expo that the hotel I'm staying at isn't anywhere near a shuttle stop for the race tomorrow! So, hiccup number 1 million for this trip...I get to take a cab at 6:30am...seriously! Merrrr. Anyway, nothing I can do.
So I left the expo and head toward the bus station to get a run down on the workings of the transit system here and on my way walked past the Anchorage Museum
Then strolled down to the station and was given the run down on traveling Anchorage via bus and missed the bus by 5 mins. So, instead of waiting an hour for the next one I decided to walk the 5 miles to the restaurant for dinner. Probably not the best idea considering I had easily walked 3-5 miles from the expo, through the museum, and to the station...and I have 26.2 to run tomorrow!
Two things I've learned about Anchorage so far...the people are really nice (everyone makes eye contact and at least smiles if not says hi to you when you pass them) and two, there are no chains or grocery stores to be found.
That being said, I ate at a small Italian place that was actually fairly decent. From here there was a bus stop around the corner and I made my way over. While I waited for the bus, I figured out my route back to the hotel. Well, needless to say, I made the right bus changes but on the second bus got on going the opposite direction. I realized my mistake, got off at the next stop and hopped across the street to catch it going the right direction. Only thing is I missed it by a matter of minutes...next one wouldn't be by for another hour! YEESH! So, I decided, the hotel isn't but a few miles up the road...I'll walk it! I just hope I haven't done too much walking today. My legs aren't feeling anything tonight but that doesn't mean that'll still be the case tomorrow morning for the race.
Any how. I need to get to bed since I've gotta be up for my cab ride in the morning :-( Looking forward to running through this beautiful city tomorrow!
